So, I'm going out to run, I'll be back...

It's a good thing that, like Jesus, I am not married!

Why it's tough for me to be married: Hey, honey, listen, I'm going out for a run, I'll be back tomorrow! Yeah, I know it's 6 pm on Friday, I'll be back around 8 am.

Why it's tough for Jesus to be married: No, honey, I'm not hungry, me and the guys already ate. Yeah, I know I didn't bring anything but some fella had a fish, and there were a couple of loaves of bread. Oh, I don't know there were a few thousand. No, really, I'm not hungry, there was plenty.

Me: No really, there's 13 of us, and we plan on running 50 miles. Don't worry, we'll have on headlamps. In the cooler? Well, it's some boost, some PB&J's, some Gatorade, some boiled potatoes.

Jesus: Yes, she's gonna be there, and she is NOT a prostitute! That was a wicked rumour, can't you just call her Mary.

Me: Not that you would care, but I made it 50 miles.

Jesus: Not that you would care, but I was dead for 3 days.

Me: Ok, you're right, we were fishing.

Jesus: Yeah you're right, we were fishing.

7:10 PM Friday, 6/08/2008 - 5:23 AM Saturday, 6/09/2008 10 Hours and 13 minutes, 50 miles, the last letter (D) before the SLAM! good friends, good training, good times .....

Believe it or NOT?

Song of the Week #47, LISAH!

Life is a Highway............. All Night Long (and there are a bunch of Lyrics in between) Hey, those intials spell, LISA H! You guys remember her? We used to run with her, I wonder what ever happened to her. Where are you Lisa H? Come back, we miss you!

But this is perfect in honor of our night run tonight, because the plan is to run ALL NIGHT LONG, and some of it will be on the road.

Yeah, I remember my first night run. This will be better.
Last time, it was a solo attempt all in the woods. Er, don't do that, unless you are super Dan Miller. I'm telling you at Croom in the middle of the night those armadillos sound like Rocky Mountain Grizzly Lions! Also, the markings on the trees are much easier to see in the day time. You'll want at least a couple of extra eyes looking for them in the woods at night.

Even the Croom Road can be a little scary solo at night. One more than one occasion I've ducked into the woods to hide from on coming cars (I'm like who's traveling this road at 3;30 AM? Shoot, it was probably Woody, but before he shaved he looked a little scary at night driving that kidnapping van he has!)

Anyway, there you have it! Life is a highway, I want to run it all night long!

Come Uppins Were Had

So today, Just Me and Star killed me to death!

I thought two chicks, gonna ride bikes, no problem. Even though it's been a couple of years (3) since I've ridden the road bike, and longer still since I've done hills, I figured, it's like riding a bike, it'll come back to me! And I still believe it will (provided that I train on the bike in the hills two days a week, then I'll be up to their level...... in 2012!)

Yeah, when I finally got tired of trying to catch them I begged them to go on and leave me to die, which thankfully they did. From there, I took the short way, they took the long way back, and they still got back before me.

Well, at least I kept up with them (barely) on the 3 mile run that followed. Stay away from that bike, it's haaard!

Goodbye Mr. Kipps

Yesterday, I said bye to Colorado. It sure was fun. Saralee and Chase were so good to me, it made my heart sing. I can't wait to go back out, and I don't have to wait long, just August.

Here's a few pictures from my last couple of days. Be excellent to each other!

And Here Lies Mr. Kipps. The Beauty of Colorado Done him in! Goodbye Mr. Kipps!

I often pick a beautiful spot and just thank God for the place and the ability to be there. This was such a place.

Tail on the Scale # 39

Whooo who! Even after 5 days of drinkin' and smokin' and eatin' Rocky Mountain Oysters I still lost a pound! Now that's progress, Now that's amazin'! Now that only happened because of this*!

But I'll take it, oh, you bet I will! Down to 175, 5 more pounds in 24 days, no problem^ then another 10 before Leadville August 16, then I can do what I like, start heading back up the scale!!

Yall be good, and eat well!

ps, I didn't really smoke anything at all, but with those cigars Chase was firing up, I was tempted, I really was.
*= weight taken after 5 mile run in the humidity and before rehydration occurred
^= provided I stay out of Denver and off the hooch, sweets, Rocky Mountain Oysters, and pizza.

4 More Hours, 20 More Miles, One more Letter

Well once I got going today, I felt pretty good, I must say. Here's the trip: 10 miles (2 Hours), 23 miles (5:30), 19 Miles (3:55), and 20 miles (4 hours.) 72 Miles in at altitude, I'll take it! Or in beers, 4 beers, 6 beers, 8 beers, 5 beers and 2 Ezzra Brooks Kentucky bourbon, 1 beer and still counting. Yoikes, 26 beers and 2 whiskeys.

And not to forget, I added the letter N to my training jumble. We now have In The Gran. With 3 1/2 weeks to go I only need D, and I should pick that up on Friday's night run. We'll get SLAM at the races.

I did a loop called, Greenland Open Space. And it wasn't entirely open, as you'll see when I post the pictures tomorrow, there was a tree, maybe even two.

The course was an 8.5 loop with rolling hills. I did that twice plus a side trip to a place called Palmer Lake Trailhead which promised bathrooms with running water and a cold water spigot. And they had it all, if you knew where to look (two out of three aint bad, unless you're running low on water and the side trip took you 6 miles from the car.)

Anyway, it's been a wonderful trip, Chase and Saralee are aces! They have been so good to me, and I feel right at home. However, I'll be glad to get back home and see Ali and Har-Har, and most importantly, to DRY OUT! I haven't had this much alcohol since.......... grade school!

Lair, of the Beer, I MEAN Bear!

See, I told you guys it wasn't Croom! They gots mountains, they gots streams, and they gots NO HUMIDITY!
.
Of course those mountains will slow anybody not named Roger Sutton down, while my mileage hasn't been off the charts (though I did clock in 93 this week) the time on the feet has been valuable as heck fire. Yesterday 23 in 5:26 (just about what Andy B and I ran 35 in on Monday) and 19 in a smidge under 4 today have left me wondering how long 16 at Greenwood will take me tomorrow.
.
But the legs are solid, the foot is holding up and I'm getting ready for Western States. My gosh, I wish my Florida buddies were here! With these cheap arse airfares, we're doing it next summer, party at La Casa de Squires (beer is included in the one low price!)
