Check it out, first the Times, now around the corner from our "Hotel" (Chase makes some great arrangements after a 12-pack! But he swears it's safe!) in Tahoe City, CA.
I don't know for sure, but I'm betting the Sisters at the Convent rigged this little ditty for me. And look, a new strategy for winning, that's what I've to do the rest of the field to actually win, Knock 'em Dead!
See Star, it's a good thing I do bring that camera everywhere!
By the way, Star's the best! She gave me a little goody bag as a goody lucky go away, and I'll finish Western States powered on 100 Grand Bars and grit (have to supply the grit myself!)
Any way it's nice to feel welcoed in California!

For those who don't know it yet ... Our race was canceled due to wildfire.
Talk about disasters!

Sorry guys. Andy, gear it up for Vermont. You'll be rested and can go for that first sub-20.
So so sorry...my heart goes out to you, Chase and Andy.
Here's a link discussing the cancellation of the event.
http://www.ws100.com/latestnews.htm
I can't imagine what the runners are thinking now. Andy, I know the time and effort you've put into this. All I can say is that perhaps the cancellation of the race will save some lives, either those of runners and spectators that might have been endangered by fire or poor air quality (maybe even you or Ali) or perhaps those of nearby residents that will now be more accessible to rescue personnel in the event of a wild fire. Everyone has heard the saying that the Lord works in mysterious ways. I suppose this is just another example.
Any chance the Grand Slam people will permit a substitute race?
Wouldn't that be great.
I was reading the link I posted above (that was me on the long anonymous post) and I noticed that, to add insult to injury, the WS Board is reminding the runners that the entry fee is non-refundable. I know they have a lot of expenses prior to race day but that's like twisting the knife, isn't it?

Subject: WS cancellation: VERMONT 100 WANTS TO HELP!!!!! PLEASE PASS ON.
To: ultra@listserv.dartmouth.edu
ANNOUNCEMENT: The Vermont 100 Race Committee extends its deepest condolences to all who have been affected by the cancellation of the 2008 Western States 100. We also extend our appreciation to the Western States Race Committee and Board for keeping in mind what is of foremost importance in putting on a quality ultradistance event, the safety of our runners.
The Vermont 100 has determined that we can reopen our race to accommodate 40 additional runners. These spaces are only open to runners who were entered in Western States and unable to run because of the race's cancellation AND to runners who applied to this year's Vermont 100 but were turned away because we were closed. Any runner who fits either of these requirements must enter by July 6, 2008. We will keep updates posted to our website as quickly as possible. If you have difficulty maneuvering the website to enter, please email Dot Helling at ultradot@verizon.net or Jim Hutchinson at huchpeth@comcast.net or telephone Jim Hutchinson at (802)728-5294. Keep posted to our website, www.vermont100.com
Regarding this year's 100K, we will be announcing shortly the start time, route and aid stations for this event. We fully understand why runners would not want to start late in the day. That possibility was broached by logistics folks planning aid stations. We fully expect that 100K runners will start with the 100 mile runners. The final announcement will appear on the website soon. Thank you for your patience. Dot Helling

Chaser,
You gotta come out to VT! We have room in the house for you! It'll be a blast!
I SECOND that Chase! Come on over to VT!!!
Hey, thanks, Just Me :)
We all know Andy and Chase will make the best of this situation, right boys ?
For all you Grand Slammers, what would stop you (other than money and time)from doing the next 3 races, then return to the WS course about 4 weeks later and running the WS course as the last leg, kinda unofficial like.
Anonymous, I've never been to WS, but I can't imagine doing that race unsupported...
That's just me...
