Started Packing

I've started packing (I leave Early Wed. Morn).

I plan on putting together just one big drop bag and hope Ali and Kristyn can find me along the course. They'll be carrying: One extra pair of shoes and socks, one pair shorts, two shirts, a wind jacket, a rain jacket, some reasonable substitute for starbucks coolers (I am currently in dispute with starsucks, as of now, they suck, I'll get back to you if they quit sucking), Boost (I still like them, they sent me coupons!) Cliff Shot Blocks, Jelly Belly Sports Beans, Hammer Bars (I'll find out in September if they suck) Batteries, Flashlights, a towel, fresh legs (yeah, I wish!)

Of the stuff I bring, don't tell Kristyn and Ali, but I won't use most of it! I am generally pretty self-sufficient, er, a, provided there are numerous aid stations on the course (yeah, kind of contradicting there.) Oh, I'll use the flashlights, and I'll drink the Boost, I'll use one of the shirts, but the rest. Not likely, I mean who am I Lovey Howell? Am I going to change clothes every 15 minutes. It's just a 24-hour tour!
Speaking of packing, late news that George Carlin passed away last night. One of my favorite concerts all-time was at the Bayfront in St. Pete, watching George in 1979. I liked it, but not as much the two dudes in front of me did. "That's right, you tell 'em George!" "You nailed that one!" and he did. I got a favorite saying from watching those two dude that nigh, "Everything he said was the funniest thing, until the next thing, which was the new funniest thing."
Any way one of my favorite Carlin routines is about packing and stuff.

Hope you got to use all your stuff George, you were great!

Good luck out there man! I'll be following along online in the comfort of my easy chair.

Dave, BEWARE of the CHAIR!

(rather be in one too, but I'm more of in a corner than a chair now!)

No, I think you have it wrong, it's "BE the chair!"

Too bad about George. Wonder if he met a Maker...?

On another note, I have a question about your Grand Slam: do you have to finish each race within 24-hours, or is it tatoo-worthy if you finish all four races within the time-limt?

Mr. Matt said...

Star, anything withing the time limit is fine! I "Can" do WS in less than 24 hours, if all goes well (I had 15 1/2 minutes to spare when I was a lot younger!)

I am 3 for 3 in U-24 at Vermont.

Leadiville even gives you an extra hour for the swanky buckle at 25 hours, but I'll take 29 and change there.

Wasatch gives you 36 hours just to finish, I'd like to break 30, but hey, I'll feel a great sense of accomplishment if I can make it to the starting line there.

Mr. Toad's wild ride, I have no idea how I'll do! But if I finish, and Chase does his part, well, de plane, de plane, because I'll be tattoo-ed!

You gettin' a booze monkey or you doin' sumpin' different?

Mr. Matt said...

Booze Monkey is all Chaser. Heck, I don't know, prolly won't come to nuttin, but something Grand Slam worthy. I suggested little "Hang Ten" type runner feet, Chase said that was "wussing out." Go big or go home he said, so, I may go home, we'll see.

A nice tat of Tiger Woods scrambling up a rocky mountain might work for the Grand Slam. Andy, as always, I am totally inspired by the quality of rest you put in this past week. I would suggest that you have your crew carry you everywhere until race morning. Or at least roll you in a shopping cart. Have fun A-man!!!

WHEN YOU FINISH (gosh dang it Andy!) we'll all go with you to YBOR to see you get a Grand Slam tat :)

Roger, I like the idea of being hauled around in a cart or chair. Think I could find someone to do that for me just for $h*ts and giggles?

Mr. Matt said...

Hey, it's only homeless people what use those shopping carts, come to think of it, I can't see having much left over for rent after this grand slam fiasco is paid for WHEN (thanks Star:) I finish!

As far as your tatoo maybe you should just go with some Chinese symbols on your lower back and two dolphins around your naval. I knew a girl in college who had similar ones and we called her the Grand Slam.

Mr. Matt said...

Er, Tracy, College was a long time ago, we've all changed since then, and rest assured Ms Slam (oops, left out the G-Spot, I mean the spot for the G) is not from Maine, I repeat, she is not from Maine (and New Hampshire is a LONG way away!)

I was saddened to hear about George Carlin too. Saw him at Ruth Eckerd in Dec 2002. Never laughed so hard! Never peed in my pants either; thank the good Lord since I was going out for dinner afterwards.

I'd say "Have Fun", but somehow I can figure that what you are doing is "fun". Then again...we have different ideas about having fun.

I guess that "Break a Leg" would not be good either?

Party on dude!

Hey thanks Bob! Man, that Ronda is something isn't she? A real dynamo, I just knew she would win Bighorn, That's a TOUGH race!

I'm hoping I can get a little Karma from her!
