KARIBU (WELCOME)!
This past month was full of exciting news and positive attention for Literacy Leads to Hope.
EVERYDAY HEREOS
-Watch for us on Monday, December 4th, as we are featured as "Everyday Heroes" on Tampa Bay's local news network, BayNews9. Anchor Leigh Moody gives us a chance to tell our story and the film crew followed us around while we received our proclamation from the Mayor and visited local schools who participated in fundraising. Ms. Moody is even going to wear our t-shirt as she reports!

-The St. Petersburg Times published an article about our work in their City Times section in an article called, "Community Project A World Away." To read the article click here.
RUNNING FOR LITERACY
Mr. Andy Mathews, Track Coach at Tampa Catholic High School, will be "running for literacy" on December 8th. He is attempting a 100-mile course in 24 hours through the Ancient Oaks on Florida's Space Coast. Coach Mathews has generously agreed to donate all pledged contributions for his effort to the library project. He recognizes that Kenya is home to many of the world's finest runners and hopes his donation will spread hope through literacy. Email Coach Mathews at AMathews@tampacatholic.org to make a pledge and keep him running!
LITERACY LEADS TO HOPE DAY
On Tuesday, November 13th Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio officially proclaimed it to be Literacy Leads to Hope Day in the City of Tampa. Mayor Iorio was very supportive and encouraging! She even invited us to co-host an upcoming segment of her television show, "Mayor's Book Talk". The Mayor presented us with a beautiful framed proclamation, and told us how important literacy is to her, and that we should be proud of our efforts. Click to see the Proclamation!
CONTEST WINNER
Tyler Mokris, a sophormore from Tampa Catholic High School was the winner of the "Literacy Leads to Hope Day" poster contest. Tyler drew a beautiful depiction of how reading can bring hope to people without books. His poster was framed and we will hang it in the Thika Community Library in Kenya when we go next summer. SCHOOLS FOR LITERACY
The Hillsborough County School District approved our request to include the public school system in our project.
Incarnation Catholic School in Tampa raised $365 for the library by selling uniform passes.
Bart Birdsall, Media Specialist at Monroe Middle School in Tampa, is selling tumaini dolls to his co-faculty members and is hoping to sell t-shirts to his students. Good luck MMS!

Chase, AndyMan completed the race. Did pretty well, too. I'd imagine he's going to post the results tomorrow (can you believe he's tired? I mean, really.).
Bah, no excuse. I talked to him, he sounded fine ... his usual lack of grip on the world around him .. I mean, geeze, it's not like he ran 200 miles ..
