Life in the Fred Lane!

New MUSIC! I NEED NEW MUSIC! Yes my (thank you Apple) I-Pod holds more than 1000 songs, but guess what, 9-Hunert of them are my same old songs!

So here's the deal:

You guys all make play-lists for me of 9 songs that you would want to run to, and one funny song you just think I need. Then I'll download them and put them on mine. I promise you I will use these at Western States, and that I will not fast forward past them. If 10 of you think that I should have Jingle Bell Rock, I'll put Jingle Bell Rock on my play-list 10 times.

If I was making this list up for you, I'd have:
Donna the Buffalo- Tides of Time
Johnny Cash- My Own Personal Jesus
Tracy Chapman- Revolution
Bruce Springsteen- Born to Run
The Duhks- Annabel
The Knitters- Wrecking Ball
KD Lange- Hallelujah
Laura Love- Sometimes Davy Wins
Dixie Chicks- Not Ready to Make Nice

And My funny song, this edges out, "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,"

Fred Lane- The French Toast Man.

As a taster of the great work of Fred Lane, I present to you:
FRENCH TOAST MAN
Select and sing along with Fred to the first verse! (RealAudio).

Ok, I'm excited about this, I really am. I can't wait to get rid of much of what I have. (Hey, feel free to submit more than one list, I don't want only 20 songs on my play-list!)

Stuff I've been diggin this week, and I'd run to if I ran:

1. Copperhead Road- Steve Earle (just a rockin' great song)
2. Time to Imagine- MGMT (free download on i-Tunes last week- sounds kinda like Prince + grunge)
3. Galway Girl- Steve Earle (gotta love Steve Earle)
4. Last Resort- Eagles (beautiful pop)
5. Heroes- David Bowie (could be any of about five Bowie songs, really)
6. Birdhouse in your Soul- They Might be Giants (They did theme from Malcolm in the Middle, too. Dave Okamoto got me into these dudes in, like 1990. My oldest, Davis, re-introduced me)
7. Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore (any decent version)- liked it since music appreciation at Sewanee
8. Teacher, Teacher- Rockpile (Nick Lowe and Dave Edmonds from Seconds of Pleasure. Indeed.)
9. Things Have Changed- Bob Dylan (love to juxtapose this jaded, middle-aged man view with a cool catchy tune with the youthful defiance of "the Times they are a Changin').
10. Shook me all night long- AC/DC (admit it, guys, you used to love this song when you were an adolescent. In private, you know you still do.)
Goofy Song- Amish Paradise- Weird Al Yankovic (but listen to Coolio's Gansta's Paradise first, if you haven't already).

Standing at the computer, good idea! And Arlene, One song is not enough! You don't have to think I'd like them, any songs you'd have while running.

Also, I've had a few people just e-mail me their lists, that's cool too.

So I can't count. I taught Biology and Chemistry, not Math!

I'll come up with some more. I have 200 on my mp3; I should be able to find something that even YOU would listen to.

Star,
I'm bettin' my bro-ham, SuperDave, likes your kick @ss list better, but I'll admit it, you have me pegged, I really like the pansy list. I guess I are one :-) (Oh, schmitz, I just used the smiley symbol, what's next AndyMan in BrokeBack II? Not that there is anything wrong with that!)

Well, you gave yourself away on Sunday. There are songs ta bring you up and songs ta bring you down, depending on your needs at the time. There are some rarities listed, so let me know if you have trouble finding them...

Oh, Yeah! I do dig Star's Kick-A*s list. When AM was a junior and I was a senior at A.P. Leto Comprehensive H.S., we went to different concerts (I think it was in the same weekend, right AM?). The boys and I rocked out to Cat Scratch Fever with Ted Nugent at the Bay Front civic center, and AndyMan took a date to Dan Fogelberg in Lakeland. I still oughta kick his a*s for that one (of course, I couldn't catch him).

Mr. Matt said...

Oh yeah? Well, I can still see Ted Nugent, and well, you eternally missed Dan Fogelberg! Shoes on the other hand now!

superdave524 said...

How true, how true. Ted hasn't changed much. Dan... has.

Star said...

Bwaa-haha Andyman, you got Jacked-Up! by your own brother :) Oh there's something to say for romance, right? I mean hopefully you got lucky that night for your Dan-dy efforts...uh, at least answer yes.

Come on Superdave...let's blow this pop stand!

Mr. Matt said...

I wasn't going to pull out the "hey I had a date and you went with Oak card," (I mean I already ragged on him about his cooking)but now that mention it.... I well, had a date that night, and he went with Oak. Dan Fogelberg has, er had his place. Very Astute Star Power, very astute, you must be perdy good at your job.

superdave524 said...

Star, you got it. The SpongeBobMobile is on its way! I'll bring the "Heroes" you bring the Korn.

superdave524 said...

...and AndyMan, you always were the dude in the relationship. Just choices we make. I'll take the Motorcity Madman, you take The Bandleader's son and a date. It's all good.

Mr. Matt said...

These days it's Van Morrison, though he's getting a little "Long in the tooth" as well.

I'm one rockin' therapist I must say :)

Dave, does your Sin Bin by any chance have shag carpet and a sign on the door that says, "If this house is a-rockin' don't bother knockin'"...?

superdave524 said...

Star, that had been my plan. Unfortunately (or, really, fortunately), every time I turn around I have more children coming to live with me. I get my oldest packed off to college, then my daughter moves in. She's back at her mommahouse, now my identical twin 12 yoa boys are nesting with me in the Boro. Hard to go trolling when the place is crawling with kids.

And when you're listening to Acid Rock and eating jalapeno poppers! I'm just saying....
