Tail of the Scale:

One of my keys to Western States success was to lose some lard.

I have noticed that my clothes fit very well as of late. You may think this is a good thing, but ask any obsessed runner (geez, I hate that word, yet have to admit that it's true) and the only well fitting clothes are loose fitting clothes.

There was no use denying it, plantar fascitiis and M & M's (ok, and maybe Amberbock) have had an impact upon my form. So, how did I handle this? I took one more large handful of M & M's and went down to Target and picked up the best scale they had for under $8. Hey, I'm not looking for an exact figure, I just want to know what the trend is.

I've said that I want to be around 160 for Western and 155 for Leadville. Normally I figure, I'm between 175 and 180. 185 when I'm not running.

Wednesday's cheapie scale report, 183! Yoikes! Ok, don't panic, I'm M & M free for two days now. and that's only 23 pounds in 9 1/2 weeks, a lot of things can happen in 9 1/2 weeks. I'll get down there really you'll see. I'll update you on Wednesday's.

Huh. I thought that only girls fret about their weight. You do realize that losing 23 pounds in two months isn't really smart or healthy, right? (If you answer NO to that, we can talk more...)

I've found that once I really get into training, I naturally stop eating as much junk and focus on eating good recovery food (but, uh, chocolate is a totally fine recovery food!).

And stored energy is a MUST for endurance events. (At least that's what I tell myself).

Star, it aint two months, it's 10 weeks. 2 pounds per week is a healthy weight loss program. 2 X 10= 20. So, I can do this, the healthy way. And I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about the damage I'll do to the trails with my impact!

But thanks for thinking of me.

Yeah, I never said I was good at maff. Regardless, be good to your body...and to the trails my friend.

Try a steady diet of barfing after meals...it worked for the Olsen Twins and did wonders for Karen Carpenter (What? Too soon?)

The Carpenter Diet and Exercise program:
Now Binge and Purge
And Binge and Purge

Come on get those fingers in there
That's good, now quietly,
Binge and Purge

Come on like nobody's watchin'

That's terrible, do not do that!!!

Just another one of your gags, I guess.

Oh, another country heard from....looks like the Prof is back from the dead! Apparently you actually had to WORK this week before summer break, eh?

With one-liners like that I am starting to not believe Andy when he says he is the funnier Matthews brother.

Star - I've actually had less work this week, but I don't want to overdo the comments for fear of setting everyones' expectations too high.

Hey Prof, you're too young to remember the old exercise videos but if you had seen them, well, you'd still be laughing at Now, Binge and Purge, you gotta picture it..

Plus, I'll admit SuperD says more funny things, but percentage wise, well, no contest.

Hey, no worries, Aman, this race crosses right over Donner Pass, if you're hungry, eat the slow folks!

And honestly, it's not unhealthy weight loss if it's for your hobby. (didn't you say you were hitting the gym regularly this time? don't forget some of that weight may be muscle)

Roger said...

So Chase, are you saying that Andy should stop lifting weights and convert his muscle back to fat? I have to admit it's an interesting way to look at it. Muscle is heavier than fat so it should help him drop weight (if he had more muscle to convert that is).

Mr. Matt said...

Yes, I believe I have added some muscle, but mostly, I hate to say, it's a lil beer belly that is making my clothes fit better. Not complaining, I went from 80 down to 10 miles per week and prolly ate more. It happens. but now, I'm back on Track star.

Dr. Maguse said...

That's what i'm doing: 2 lbs per week. when i actually start, i'll let you know...maybe we should make a pact and challenge/motivate each other...

Dr. Maguse said...

btw, binging and purging doesn't it work...it slows down your metabolism and you'll actually gain weight.
take it from the one time bulimic.

Well, I'll not try the ol Binge and Purge. I really think running more and scrapping the sweets is doing the trick.

And I've resisted the urge I've been having for honey-dipped fried chicken! Gawd, but that sounds good. SuperD, don't do it! Eat some asparagus, it tastes good and you get that reminder all the next day that you ate something healthful!

Mmmmm. Chicken wings!

(and, thanks, Professor. Andy is right about the percentage thing. Like Monica Lewinski, he has a governor on him...).

Mr. Matt said...

I don't know about Monica and a governor, but I know that there was a time when Debra Winger could only drive 68 miles and hour.

(1-MPH faster and she'd blow a governor!)

Do you know how to lose weight real quick! Run a MARATHON in 80+ degree weather! It worked for me. Remember Palm Beaches? I came home 5 and one half pounds lighter than I left, and that was after that burger and brewsky that I ate before we hit the road.

So, if you do this 4 times (I am good at maff), you will lose 22 lbs. OK, you still have to lose 1 more pound, but it is close.

And your fingers don't wrinkle up too much from getting so wet in your mouth!

Mr. Matt said...

Shoot, I reckon the 4 marathons will work, but what if I drink water? Then it might mean I have to run 10 of them things!

Arlene said...

That WAS after drinking the water! And the Gatorade.

Don't drink the water and you will lose 183 lbs real fast!

And you don't have to be good at maff to figure that one out.
